Patterson was named after Matthew Patterson, settler.


The East of Hudson Watershed Corporation, one of the largest nonprofits in Patterson, was established by municipalities in northern Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess counties. The organization works to reduce the amount of phosphorus in stormwater runoff in the watershed of the New York City water supply east of the Hudson River.
